With a population of more than 54 million people, Myanmar is one of the most populous countries in Southeast Asia. More than 5 million people live in its former capital, Yangon (also known as Rangoon), making it the most populous and largest city in the country. Home to the Shwedagon Pagoda, the Golden Pagoda Myanmar, and the city is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Myanmar. Most people come to Myanmar to explore the 2,000 temples at Bagan, which served as the capital of the Pagan Kingdom from the 9th to 13th centuries. This ancient city is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the majority of its temples can be found within the Bagan Archaeological Zone. Visitors can admire the temples by foot, on a bicycle, hiring a car-and-driver, or from a hot air balloon flight. 

Besides historical and cultural sights, Myanmar also boasts natural beauty. Those who want to enjoy the country’s coastline usually go to Ngapali Beach. In terms of style, they may have a traditional-style design or modern design. Traditional-style apartments are much more affordable and appeal more to locals rather than foreigners.

Renters also have the choice to live in serviced apartments. This type of apartment is much more luxurious than standard apartments, with fully furnished units, swimming pools, gyms, clubhouses, 24-hour security systems, and children’s playgrounds. Renters are also provided with a range of services, such as housekeeping, room service, and cleaning service. This gives renters a hotel-like lifestyle. 

Standalone houses and detached houses are also popular for those who need more space and privacy. 

1. Fewer risks – one of the major risks is corruption and incompetency when seeking investment permits from the government, which is why renting is seen as the most viable option for most expats relocating to the country. 
2. Complicated process – investing in Myanmar is much harder and complicated in reality than it looks on paper. Myanmar just recently enacted a foreign property ownership law that is roughly based on Thai law, in which foreigners can own up to 40% of the floor space in a single condominium. However, since the law only took effect in early 2016 and not many condos are registered under the foreign investment law, making it very complicated and difficult for foreigners to invest.
3. More flexibility – renting a property gives you much more flexibility if you only plan to stay in the country temporarily or you do not see yourself living in the property permanently. Also, should any changes happen in your life, such as being relocated for work, your familygrows, or you have problems with a neighbor, you can just leave without having to worry about finding a tenant or selling the property.
4. Less responsibility – owning a property comes with a lot of responsibility, such as having to take care of the maintenance. When you rent, you can sit back and relax while the landlord takes care of any repairs or renovations.
